Council Nominations
Been to any good workshops lately? Have you learned anything new from a general meeting? Have you ever volunteered?
To understand what a group of volunteers can accomplish, consider the benefits of the workshops by JoAnn Hackos, John Bowie, Jared Spool, Ginny Redish, and Cooper Interaction Design; the general meetings; the job bank; and the countless networking opportunities. None of these things would be available to you without volunteers.
No matter what your background, you have something to offer and everything to gain.
Understanding the Benefits
If you've been a member of the STC for a while, or you are a seasoned technical communicator, volunteering for a council position enables you to:
- Try something that might not be part of your current job.
- Develop your organization, administration, and leadership skills.
- Learn new skills or develop some of your existing skills.
- Network with others in your field.
If you are new to the STC or the technical communication field, you can:
- Learn new skills.
- Add some volunteer work to your resume.
- Learn about technical communication as a career choice.
- Work with people who have careers in the field, including people who hire writers.
- Learn more about the STC.
What's holding you back?
Deciding on a Position
We have volunteer opportunities to fit your schedule. You can volunteer to be a manager of a committee, a member of a committee, or just complete one task that needs doing. It's up to you to decide your level of involvement.
To help you decide which position is right for you, we have descriptions of the positions and committees.
The Nomination Process
When you've decided how you would like to help the chapter, complete the Nominations Form.
